Right on Time: Marianthi Hayden's Return to Greystone

Marianthi Hayden's family joined Greystone years ago, back when her son was young and her father-in-law gifted them the membership.

Golf became her son's world. He grew up on the course and eventually played Division I golf.

Then he graduated and started a family of his own.

Marianthi's husband worked full-time and Marianthi became a full-time caregiver for her mother, who lived to 105. Membership no longer fit that season of life, so the family stepped away.

In July 2025, Marianthi's daughter was visiting with her three children, her husband was traveling for work, and Marianthi found herself managing it all from home.

"I called my husband, and I said, 'I know you're getting ready to retire soon. We need to rejoin Greystone,'" she says. "And that's how it happened."

All at once, the Haydens were back at the club, right as a new chapter of their life together began.

Everything Got Better

Marianthi has watched Greystone grow every year.

"Everything has gotten better. Everything. You name it, it got better," she says.

She feels that the golf has been “gold standard”, adding that she and her husband have watched pros like Mark Blackburn build Greystone's golf reputation. Dining has kept pace right alongside it.

"Food is my life, and I'm a tough critic," she says. "The food has been amazing."

Between Wind Down Wednesdays, the pool, and pickleball, Marianthi feels her club life is “basically like being on a cruise ship," she says. "You never have to leave."

Finding Her Place

The first time around, Marianthi's Greystone experience centered on her son and his golf schedule. This time, she is building a life of her own.

"I'm eating there more," she says. "My husband's at the fitness center now, and I'm using the pool more too. I just noticed I can learn to play pickleball, so I'm going to do that. I'm doing a paint and wine night tonight at six o'clock. I'm looking for stuff to do." Tennis is next on her list.

At the pool, she talks about the July 4th staff who kept everything clean, made sure every family was fed, and never let a single detail slip. She mentions the life vests for kids, hung neatly and ready for any family that needs one.

A Welcome That Waited

"I wasn't a member for a minute, but yet I came back and they were waiting for me with open arms," she says. "I felt like I never missed a beat."

She has spent years watching her son learn life lessons from golf, from how to treat cart staff to how to carry himself with older members on the range.

Now, at 65, she’s lounging near the pool, listening to families talk, and staying connected to the club's next generation.

She points to Bob Hilton, a longtime member and past Greystone president, as the kind of person who shaped Greystone’s spirit. Hilton took real interest in the families around him, and Marianthi has carried that same instinct into her own place in the community.

"There's always somebody older with wisdom to offer at a club like this," she says. "Look for it."

Marianthi is originally from Philadelphia, and her family there jokes with her about how quickly she's ready to head home after a visit.

Greystone is home now, perfect for her stage of life.
